My Brand Story

This is not your typical beauty blog. Well I mean it will be but first I’d like you to get to know me a bit better. I’m Tara, married with 4 kids (yes we’ll get onto that), lover of quality cosmetics and skincare products and wine, all wine! My 20’s and early 30’s were spent working in Financial Services. First in Customer Service and then later in Leadership positions. I was good at my job but it was always something that I just kinda did, I wasn’t excited about working every day, lets put it that way! I moved to Melbourne in 2006 for a position with a large fund and met the love of my life. We lived in Melbourne for 2 years until the cold and the dark finally wore me down and we moved back to Perth early 2009…. This is where life starts to get interesting!

HOW IT ALL BEGAN…..

We got married, built a house and started a family. With the help of IVF we had 3 kids, twin daughters, Sadie and Patience in 2012 and another daughter Luca, in 2014. Life was busy but I was a happy mum, so blessed and lucky to have the 3 children we had. A few weeks before Luca turned 1 I found out I was pregnant. To say we were surprised was a huge understatement. It took sometime for us to digest the fact that our perfect family of 5 was going to be 6 and that I would have 4 children under 4 but 8 months later Finn was born and I would never change it for the world. What his birth did mean was that it was near impossible for me to return to my fulltime job in the Financial Services. Not only did I want to see my kids for more than a couple of hours a day but I just didn’t LOVE my job enough to make it all worthwhile!

FOLLOWING A PASSION….

When I left school I really wanted to become a makeup artist. I loved playing around with makeup and I loved doing other peoples makeup. I took a couple of courses but never had the drive to do anything with it but I still loved doing my own face, trying new products and doing friends and relatives when I could. 18 months ago I decided it was time, time to make a career out of my PASSION and time to do something for me so I started Black Lash Makeup Design.

FOCUSING ON SUCCESS….

I’m not going to lie, getting Black Lash off the ground has been tough, and at first I didn’t give it the respect it deserved but I’m starting to surround myself with the right people and I’m saying yes to every opportunity I get! Having 4 kids means that I have the usual challenges of not enough time or money and I’d never worked for myself but once a day I come back to my why. Why do I want to be my own boss, why do I want to be a makeup artist and why is it so important that I succeed. The answers are simple, I want to be around for my kids, I want to follow my dream and in order to do both of those things Black Lash needs to succeed.

MY POINT OF DIFFERENCE….

In order to succeed I need to be able to differentiate myself from the hundreds of talented makeup artists out there. I thought about my passion for makeup and my love of being a mother and how I could bring the 2 together. My mission is to offer a service to other moms that they can feel comfortable using and make the one or two special occasions that they actually get to leave the house even more special. To take away some of the stress that goes along with getting ready with kids and to give them some time where the focus is only on them because lets face it, we all deserve that! I want my clients to feel they have been listened to, that they have received a service that’s individual to them and that the process of getting ready has been as enjoyable as the event itself.

HOW I CAN HELP…..

My business focuses on Special Event and Bridal makeup services. I have a studio in Landsdale or can travel to you or your event. I like natural, flattering, age appropriate makeup that’s long-wearing and leaves you feeling beautiful and confident. Makeup doesn’t have to be put on with a trowel, you don’t need heaps of expensive products to get a flattering look and it doesn’t have to be difficult. So if you feel you are lacking in time or makeup know-how, stick with me, hopefully over the next few blogs I can teach you a few tricks from your day to day look to a glam night out!
